BENUE- All 13 passengers abducted by armed men from an 18-seater Benue Links bus along the Makurdi–Otukpo road last Wednesday have regained their freedom.
Among those released are about eight candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), who were travelling to Otukpo to sit for their examinations at the time of the attack.
Sources disclosed that the victims were freed in the early hours of Sunday after spending about three days in captivity. However, details of the circumstances surrounding their release were yet to be officially disclosed by authorities as of press time.
It was gathered that security operatives had intensified operations in the area in the days leading up to the rescue, a move believed to have contributed to the successful outcome.
Following their release, the victims were promptly evacuated for medical attention and are currently receiving treatment at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Otukpo.
The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, who confirmed the development, said a comprehensive briefing would be provided to the media.
