Police Confirm Abduction in Kaduna, Deploy Tactical Units for Rescue

The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that the reported abduction at Kurmin Wali, a remote community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, did occur, contrary to earlier conflicting accounts that had generated confusion and public anxiety.

The Police clarified that its initial response was not a denial of the incident but a cautious position adopted while awaiting full confirmation of details from the field.

In a statement issued Tuesday night, the Force said it understood the fear and anxiety such reports cause to families, residents and the general public, stressing that the safety of every citizen remains a top priority.

According to the Police, upon receipt of the report, the Kaduna State Security Council was convened by the Governor at the Government House, Kaduna.

During the meeting, some individuals from the affected local government area disputed the report, which had earlier been confirmed by the Police, and described it as false. This, the Force said, created uncertainty and underscored the need for caution and thorough verification by security agencies before making definitive public statements on such a sensitive issue.

The Police explained that comments made by the Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Command, during a media interaction were aimed at preventing unnecessary panic while facts were being verified. The remarks, which were later widely misinterpreted, were not intended to deny the incident but to reflect a measured response pending confirmation of details, including the identities and number of those affected.

Following further verification from operational units and intelligence sources, the Police confirmed that the abduction did occur. Consequently, coordinated security operations were activated in collaboration with other security agencies, with a focus on locating and safely rescuing the victims as well as restoring calm to the area.

The Inspector-General of Police has directed the full deployment of critical operational and intelligence assets to Kajuru and surrounding communities. These measures include the deployment of tactical units, intensified patrols, targeted search-and-rescue operations, and proactive steps to protect lives and property.

The Police appealed to the public and the media for patience and cooperation, urging reliance on official communications for verified information and cautioning against speculation or sensational reporting that could compromise ongoing operations or heighten public anxiety.

The Force reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of all citizens and pledged to provide updates as developments unfold.
