Academic activities at the University of Jos have been grounded following the decision of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIJOS branch, to embark on an indefinite withdrawal of services over unpaid March 2026 salaries and the omission of Earned Academic Allowance (EAA).
The directive, which takes immediate effect from Wednesday, was communicated in a statement signed by the branch Chairperson, Jurbe Joseph Molwus.
According to the union, the action followed due consultations and aligns with resolutions of its National Executive Council (NEC) and decisions reached at the branch congress.
ASUU instructed its members to suspend all academic and administrative duties, including lectures, examinations, and statutory meetings, until outstanding payments are made.
The union expressed frustration over the continued delay in salary disbursement, noting that despite its patience, members are yet to receive their March pay.
It attributed the situation to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, explaining that the university’s bursary department had already fulfilled its obligations in the payment process.
The statement warned that the union’s strike monitoring team had been activated to ensure full compliance with the directive.
The development adds to a growing wave of discontent within the university system, as ASUU branches nationwide continue to raise concerns over delayed salaries and the Federal Government’s failure to fully implement agreements with the union.
