Wike pledges to cover burial expenses of late FCT Head of Service

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has expressed deep grief over the sudden passing of the Head of Service of the FCT, Mrs Grace Adayilo, describing her as a dedicated and selfless public servant whose death is a huge loss to the Administration.

Speaking during a condolence visit to the family in Abuja, Wike said he was devastated when he received news of Adayilo’s passing, noting that he had no prior knowledge of her ill health.

“With pain, with serious pain, I condole with the family of my former Head of Service. When I was told she had passed on, I initially dismissed it as a joke. I never knew she was sick. It is so difficult to accept that this is true,” Wike said.

The minister recalled Adayilo’s commitment and loyalty to duty, saying she stood out among civil servants for her passion, honesty and diligence.

He noted that when she was first recommended to him for the position of Head of Service, he was assured of her competence and she never disappointed.

“Throughout the time I worked with her, I never had cause for complaint. She was always full of life, proactive and never made excuses. Even when she was due for retirement, I insisted she stayed because I still needed her guidance. Mr. President graciously extended her tenure by one year. Sadly, I didn’t know we would lose her so soon,” Wike lamented.

He praised her as a true Christian, community leader and a dependable woman who combined professionalism with humility.

While commiserating with the family, Wike pledged the support of the FCT Administration, promising that the government would fully fund her burial expenses and also take responsibility for the welfare of her children.

“We are going to support you as necessary. Every of the burial expenses, the FCT will take care of. If her children are not working, we will take that responsibility immediately. Money cannot replace her, but this is the least we can do to honour her memory,” he assured.

Wike urged the bereaved family to take solace in her impactful life and steadfast faith, praying that God grants her eternal rest.
