N20m Fraud Allegation: NYCN Enugu Chairman, Okoh, Impeached Over Misappropriation of Funds
Enugu – The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Enugu State Chapter, Comrade Ebuka Bartholomew Okoh, has been impeached and suspended over allegations of misappropriating N20 million, abuse of office, and repeated attacks on Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.
Announcing the decision after an executive meeting in Enugu, the Deputy Chairman, Comrade Wealth Opu, and the Secretary-General, Comrade Johnson Ossai, accused Okoh of financial impropriety and dishonesty regarding government subventions.
According to them, Okoh had consistently denied receiving financial support from the state government — a claim they described as false. “In a statement of account printed from the United Bank for Africa (UBA), it was observed that the state government has been subventing the Council with amounts ranging from N500,000 to N1.5 million since the account was opened in January 2024 till date,” the executives said.
They further alleged that Okoh submitted alternative account details to the Chief of Staff, Government House, under the pretext that the Council’s account was faulty.
“It was discovered that the impeached and suspended chairman blocked other signatories from receiving account alerts, and also forged signatures to withdraw money from the account at will without the executives’ approval,” Opu and Ossai added.
The impeachment communiqué, signed by 14 out of 17 executive members on September 1, 2025, formally removed Okoh from office.
Those who signed include Comrade Kenneth Eze (Vice Chairman, North), Comrade Blessing Chinyere Utazi (DPRO), Comrade Ezinne Onah (Assistant Programmer), Comrade Ogechukwu Asadu (Financial Secretary), Comrade Ejike Ekwueme (Programme Officer), and Comrade Jonathan Ogbu (Organising Secretary, East).
Others were Comrade Chidera Okoye (Internal Auditor), Comrade Johnson Ossai (Secretary-General), Comrade Goodness Udeh (Treasurer), Comrade Joseph Onah (Social Secretary), Comrade Maryann Nwachukwu (Assistant Secretary), Comrade Obinna Opu (Deputy Chairman), Comrade Anita Isamade (Vice Chairman, West), and Emmanuel Obi (Organising Secretary).
Following the impeachment, a five-man committee was set up to conduct a by-election within seven working days. Meanwhile, Comrade Wealth Opu has assumed office as Acting Chairman, while Comrade Johnson Ossai continues as Secretary-General.
Efforts to reach Comrade Okoh for his reaction were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
