By Clement John

Preferred aspirant, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Nasarawa State after defeating former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, and other contenders in the party’s primary election.

Wadada, who currently represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, secured a total of 196,090 votes to clinch the APC ticket for the 2027 governorship election.

The senator recorded victories across virtually all the local government areas of the state, losing only in Keana Local Government Area, where Adamu emerged winner.

The former police chief, who was reportedly backed by former Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, polled 4,900 votes in Keana and garnered a total of 42,397 votes in the overall contest.

Wadada’s victory in the primary election held on Thursday, May 21, further strengthened his position within the party after he was earlier endorsed by Governor Abdullahi Sule as his preferred successor.
Party officials described the exercise as peaceful and orderly, with delegates and members participating across the state.
