Mutfwang Clinches APC Governorship Ticket in Plateau Landslide

JOS — The Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Plateau State after securing a sweeping victory in the party’s primary election ahead of the forthcoming general election.

Mutfwang defeated his closest rival, retired Navy Commodore Yilchini Jan Bida, polling 233,335 votes against Bida’s 3,070 votes.

Announcing the results, Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Election Committee in Plateau State, Fedelis Mnyim, said a total of 236,405 votes were cast during the exercise conducted across the state.

Mnyim commended party members for their orderly conduct throughout the process, noting that the primary election complied with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

“I, as the Chairman of the Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, hereby certify that the Plateau State governorship primary election held on May 21, 2026, was duly conducted,” he said.

According to him, retired Commander Yilchini Jan Bida scored 3,070 votes, while Mutfwang secured 233,335 votes to emerge winner of the contest.

“Therefore, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC Constitution and guidelines, and having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected as the APC governorship candidate for Plateau State,” Mnyim added.

The primary election, which took place across the state’s local government areas, was monitored by party officials and security agencies.

Reports indicated that the exercise was peaceful and orderly, with no major incidents recorded during the voting process.
