ABUJA – President Bola Tinubu has announced a strategic shift in Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities, directing newly appointed ambassadors to focus on attracting foreign investment and strengthening international partnerships.

Speaking at the opening of an induction programme at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President revealed a reordering of Nigeria’s 4D foreign policy framework.

Previously arranged as Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora, the framework has now been reordered to Demography, Development, Diaspora, and Democracy.

“This re-ordering has put the Nigerian people at the centre of our foreign policy agenda,” Tinubu said.

The President, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, emphasised that the shift reflects a people-focused approach to diplomacy.

He urged envoys to prioritise economic diplomacy by attracting foreign direct investment, fostering trade, and facilitating technology transfer.

“The international system is evolving rapidly. We must be prepared to meet these challenges by focusing on how best to protect and promote Nigeria’s national interest,” he said.
Tinubu also stressed the importance of public diplomacy and strategic communication in projecting Nigeria’s image globally.

He added that the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora must remain a top priority.
“Safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians in the diaspora must remain a top priority,” he stated.
The President reminded the envoys that they would be held accountable for their performance.

“You have a special responsibility in helping to reposition Nigeria in global affairs. The world is watching,” he said.
