PDP Crisis Deepens as Anyanwu Seeks Probe of Wabara, Turaki Over Alleged Impersonation

By Linda Anayo

ABUJA — The leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party intensified on Thursday as the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, disclosed that security agencies had invited former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, senior lawyer Kabiru Turaki and others over alleged impersonation linked to the formation of a rival interim National Working Committee.

The development marks a fresh twist in the ongoing battle for control of the opposition party, with the Anyanwu faction, believed to be aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, insisting it remains the only leadership structure recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission following a recent Supreme Court judgment.

Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Anyanwu said petitions had already been forwarded to security agencies, including the police and the Department of State Services, over what he described as acts of impersonation by members of the rival camp.

“We have written to the security agencies; the police and the DSS, over the issue of impersonation, and they have already invited Wabara, Turaki and others who presented themselves at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre, where the so-called interim NWC was formed,” he said.
“So, the matter is now before Nigeria’s security agencies, and we hope those involved will eventually be prosecuted.”

Anyanwu dismissed suggestions of conflicting interpretations surrounding the Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgment, insisting the ruling clearly affirmed the legitimacy of the current PDP leadership.

“The CTC has been officially released by the Supreme Court. We have copies and can make them available to you as members of the media,” he stated.

He further argued that INEC had already verified the existing National Working Committee, maintaining that there was no uncertainty over the recognised leadership structure of the party.

“You know the truth and should try to stand by it. There is only one PDP today. INEC has been here and has verified the current NWC,” he added.
Questioning the legitimacy of the rival faction, Anyanwu challenged its members to publicly disclose their operational headquarters.

“Today, we are here holding our press conference. Where are they? Where are they operating from? What is their address? It is a simple question,” he said.

The PDP National Secretary also urged media organisations to seek proper legal interpretation of the Supreme Court judgment before publishing reports that could further inflame tensions within the party.

“We will make the Supreme Court CTC available for you to read. I am sure every media organisation has a legal department. You can forward it to your legal department so that you do not misquote it and create issues that may become the subject of litigation,” he stated.
