The Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State has arrested 146 suspects during a large-scale, intelligence-driven security operation conducted in Sagamu, aimed at flushing out criminal elements and restoring public safety.
The operation, code-named “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe,” was carried out in the early hours of Sunday by operatives of the Sagamu Area Command in collaboration with other security agencies and local security stakeholders.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the exercise followed a series of strategic consultations with traditional rulers, local government authorities, and heads of security formations to strengthen the security framework in the area.
He said the coordinated raid targeted identified flashpoints believed to harbour suspected criminals who had been disturbing public peace in Sagamu and surrounding communities.
Babaseyi explained that the operation was designed as a preventive and intelligence-led intervention to avert any breakdown of law and order.
The joint exercise involved personnel of the police, military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Community Security Corps (So-Safe), and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.
He noted that the multi-agency collaboration demonstrated a strengthened security synergy aimed at improving rapid response and crime prevention across the state.
“The suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine their individual levels of involvement in criminal activities,” Babaseyi said, adding that those found culpable would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives and partner agencies for what he described as a professional and well-coordinated operation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led policing across the state, stressing that similar operations would continue in order to consolidate peace and security.
Ojajuni also urged residents to support security efforts by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious movements, noting that community cooperation remains crucial in tackling crime effectively.
