Zulum Consoles Families of 63 Victims Killed in Boko Haram Attack on Borno Community

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Saturday paid a condolence visit to Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area, where 63 people were killed during a Boko Haram attack on Friday night.

The victims included five soldiers and about 58 civilians, most of whom were displaced persons recently resettled in the community.

Visibly shaken by the tragedy, Zulum met with local leaders and grieving families, condemning the assault as “sad and devastating.” He stressed the need to strengthen community resilience while reaffirming government support.

“At this moment, we have confirmed 63 deaths, including close to 60 civilians and five soldiers,” the governor told journalists. “Our visit here is to commiserate with the people and reinforce their hope despite this painful incident.”

Zulum called for the urgent deployment of trained Forest Guards to complement military operations, noting that security forces remain overstretched. “The numerical strength of the military cannot cover everywhere. The Forest Guards must be deployed immediately to protect vulnerable communities and surrounding forests,” he added.

Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, representing Borno Central, also condemned the killings, describing them as a “crime against humanity.” He pledged legislative support for ongoing efforts to restore peace in the state.

Local sources revealed that, in addition to the deaths, several residents were abducted, though their number remains unconfirmed.
