2027: Labour Party warns Onyejeocha against seeking fifth term

The Labour Party in Abia State has criticised former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, over her decision to resign her ministerial appointment and seek another term in the House of Representatives.

The party said Onyejeocha should give younger and other qualified politicians an opportunity to represent the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency after spending 16 years in the National Assembly.

Chairman of the party in Abia State, Peter Azubuike, spoke while receiving former Commissioner for Homeland Security, Chief Dan Okoli, into the Labour Party at Lokpaukwu in Umunneochi Local Government Area.

Azubuike said the party was satisfied with the performance of the incumbent representative, Chief Amobi Ogah, and would support his re-election.
He said: “Must it be Nkeiruka Onyejeocha alone? She has represented the constituency for 16 years and wants another term. Political opportunities should be allowed to circulate among capable sons and daughters of the constituency.”

The Labour Party chairman urged supporters in Umunneochi to rally behind Ogah, adding that the party was taking his re-election seriously.
Azubuike described Okoli’s defection to the Labour Party as a major boost to its grassroots structure in Umunneochi, Abia North and the state generally.
He assured the former commissioner that he would have the opportunity to participate fully in the affairs of the party in accordance with its constitution and guidelines.

He urged Okoli to work with existing leaders and members to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Azubuike also called for support for the party’s candidates for the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Abia North Senatorial District and state House of Assembly, as well as Governor Alex Otti.
