A new analysis of satellite imagery has revealed widespread destruction across southern Lebanon, as Israel’s military campaign against Hezbollah increasingly mirrors tactics previously used in Gaza.
The escalation began after Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel in early March, prompting a major Israeli response that has combined airstrikes with ground operations. Entire bombed (areas) in southern Lebanon have since been heavily bombarded, with evidence showing large-scale demolition of buildings, many of them residential homes.
Even after a ceasefire agreement was announced in mid-April, destruction has continued. Satellite images and video footage indicate that Israeli forces are still carrying out controlled demolitions, using bulldozers and armored vehicles to level structures in affected areas.
Analysts say the pattern of destruction resembles Israel’s previous operations in Gaza, where entire neighborhoods were flattened. Israeli officials have openly referenced this approach, describing plans to replicate what they call the “Rafah and Beit Hanoun model” — a strategy involving the systematic destruction of infrastructure in considered militant strongholds.
The Israeli military maintains that its operations are targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, accusing the group of embedding weapons and command centers within civilian buildings. However, rights organizations warn that the scale and nature of the attacks raise serious humanitarian concerns, including damage to homes, healthcare facilities, and other civilian infrastructure.
Israel is also moving to establish a long-term security presence along the border. Officials have outlined plans for a “forward defense line,” which would extend several kilometers into Lebanese territory and restrict residents from returning to their homes. This includes the creation of a so-called “yellow line,” similar to a boundary previously enforced where civilians were barred from re-entering certain
Hundreds of buildings have been destroyed across multiple communities, while large sections of the population have been displaced. For many residents, the strike has triggered repeated cycles of displacement, with families forced to flee homes that are later reduced to rubble.
As fighting continues despite ceasefire efforts, concerns are growing that the war front could become a prolonged conflict, with tactics seen now shaping Israel’s broader military strategy in the region.
