HBM Nigeria Plc has commissioned a high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, station at its Mfamosing Plant in Cross River State as part of efforts to strengthen its logistics operations.
The first phase of the facility has an installed capacity of 144,000 standard cubic metres of CNG daily and is designed to fuel up to 150 trucks each day.
The facility has two pumps and four dispensing points and is designed for round-the-clock operations.
Phase Two is expected to commence by October 2026, increasing the station’s capacity to about 250 trucks daily.
Speaking at the commissioning, Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Pastor Ekpeyong Ene Cobhams, congratulated the company on the project.
“This is an era of not just mobility but also of efficiency in the choice of power sources used to deliver goods and services. We are proud of HBM Nigeria Plc, especially for its commitment to corporate social responsibility,” he said.
Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HBM Nigeria Plc, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said the project would improve efficiency and sustainability.
“Energy and logistics remain significant cost drivers for the company and its value chain. By increasing the use of CNG, we are creating more efficient and more cost-effective operations.
“We are happy that this would create more opportunities for our communities, customers, contractors, transporters, people in Cross River and the wider community in Nigeria,” he said.
Logistics Director, Osaze Aghatise, said the project represented a major expansion of the company’s CNG operations.
“We have been using CNG in our logistics operations in the last nine years, but what changes today is the scale of deployment.
“This marks a significant step in moving CNG-powered logistics from an initiative to a fully scaled operation.
“For us, the real value is what this does for our customers and our operations, shorter refuelling queues, reduced truck waiting time, better truck availability and faster turnaround,” he said.
Aghatise commended the company’s leadership for taking what he described as bold decisions and investing ahead of future needs.
