Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has convened a meeting of the State Security Council following recent attacks in parts of the state, as police confirmed the arrest of suspects linked to some of the incidents.
The meeting, held at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, focused on the security situation in the state, including the recent deadly attack in Mangu Local Government Area.
Those at the meeting included the deputy governor, heads of security and law enforcement agencies, Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, and other senior government officials.
Discussions focused on emerging threats, intelligence gathering, preventive operations, inter-agency collaboration and measures to protect lives, property and economic activities.
Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Ayodeji Faniyan, confirmed that arrests had been made in connection with some major attacks recorded in the state.
He said investigations were continuing to identify and arrest other suspects.
Faniyan said the governor convened the meeting as part of efforts to continuously assess the security situation.
He said: “Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang is the Chief Security Officer of the State, and once in a while, we review the security situation.
“We assess the security situation in order to take steps to improve on what we already have.
“The Mangu case was very unfortunate. We prepared and deployed, but somehow, such incidents still occurred.
“That is part of why His Excellency called this meeting so that such must not happen again.”
The police commissioner said security agencies were collaborating at state and national levels while using technological tools to analyse intelligence.
“We have some arrests; investigation is ongoing. We are not investigating in isolation. We are collaborating with all the other agencies up to the national level.
“We are still going after some suspects, and we are doing a lot of technological analysis,” he said.
Faniyan urged residents to provide security agencies with credible information about suspicious movements and activities.
He said the agencies were determined to preserve Plateau’s reputation as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.”
He added that increased vigilance was necessary as the ember months approached and political activities intensified ahead of the 2027 elections.
