The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into a midnight attack on student hostels at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ibogun Campus, which left several students injured and robbed of valuables.
The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development, noting that the Divisional Police Officer and Area Commander have been deployed to the scene to assess the situation and enhance security.
Reports indicate that the attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday when over a dozen armed men invaded multiple hostels, firing sporadically and causing panic among students.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers operated for several minutes, stealing phones, laptops, and other personal belongings.
A student, Jinadu Michael Mabayomije, recounted the incident, saying, “They came in large numbers, shooting and breaking into rooms. Students were running helter-skelter. Many of us didn’t know where to hide.”
Bloodstains were reportedly seen in one of the hostels, suggesting that some victims sustained injuries during the attack.
Residents described the incident as chaotic, with continuous gunfire forcing students to flee for safety.
Some victims were reportedly injured while attempting to escape or resist the attackers.
