Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 32-year-old man, identified as Chigozie Michael Clement, for allegedly abducting a seven-year-old boy in Lagos and demanding N7 million ransom from his family.

The suspect, who works as a painter, was arrested on August 27, 2025, at Ijegun area of the state following a discreet operation by the Command’s Special Squad I, two days after the victim’s father reported the incident at Alapere Police Division.

It was gathered that Clement allegedly took the child away from his parents’ residence on August 25 without their knowledge. Shortly after, he contacted the victim’s mother and demanded N7 million for the boy’s release.

Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement yesterday, said operatives swung into action immediately after the case was reported and traced the suspect to his hideout.

According to him, “On August 27, 2025, operatives stormed Ijegun, Lagos, where the suspect was arrested and the victim rescued unhurt from a locked room where he had been kept. The child has since been reunited with his family.”

Hundeyin disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, admitting he kidnapped the boy to raise money for personal family needs. He added that investigation is ongoing to determine if he had accomplices before the case is charged to court.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to combating crimes across the state.
