The Nigerian Navy has rescued two teenagers from a boat accident in Egweama Community, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on July 28, 2026, when the two 16-year-old boys were returning from a routine trip along the community waterways. Their wooden boat reportedly capsized due to adverse water conditions, leaving them stranded and at risk of drowning.
The Navy said personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Formoso responded promptly after spotting the distressed teenagers and successfully rescued them before evacuating them to safety.
The victims were subsequently given medical attention and other necessary assistance to assess their condition.
Folorunsho said the rescue demonstrated the professionalism and operational readiness of Nigerian Navy personnel in protecting lives within the country’s maritime environment.
He added that the operation underscored the Navy’s commitment to maritime safety, search and rescue operations, and the protection of lives in coastal and riverine communities.
According to him, the successful rescue also reflects the Service’s determination to strengthen its relationship with host communities through responsive and people-oriented operations while ensuring the safety of all legitimate users of Nigeria’s waterways.
