The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Plateau State University, Bokkos chapter (ASUU-PLASU), has declared an indefinite strike over the failure of the university administration to satisfactorily address its six-point list of demands.
The union announced the industrial action following a Congress meeting held after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management on August 11.
In a statement signed by the Chairperson, Comrade Vincent D. Choji, and Secretary, Comrade Lomka Iliya Kopdiya, the union said its demands remained unresolved despite the expiration of the ultimatum.
Among the demands is the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme and full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement, including the payment of arrears dating back to January 1, 2026.
The union also demanded the provision of safe and secure staff quarters and the construction of trenches around the university’s perimeter fence.
ASUU-PLASU further called for an end to what it described as intimidation of union leaders.
Another major demand is the payment of 22 months’ arrears of the 25/35 per cent wage award.
According to the statement, “Congress is convinced that the substance of our demands on all six items has not been satisfactorily addressed.”
The union said its Congress took the decision to commence the strike following approval from the National Executive Council of ASUU.
It consequently directed all members to suspend academic activities until further notice.
