The Coalition of APC Support Groups in Sokoto State has called for the immediate review and reconstitution of the City Boy Movement (CBM) structure in the state, warning that weak grassroots leadership could undermine the party’s mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.
The coalition made the demand on Thursday during a press conference in Sokoto, where it reaffirmed its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sokoto State Governor, Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
The group also reaffirmed its support for Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing Sokoto Central Senatorial District, describing him as one of the recognised leaders of the APC in the state.
The coalition said the City Boy Movement was established to mobilise support for President Tinubu and the APC, particularly among young people and grassroots supporters.
However, it alleged that the movement had not operated effectively in Sokoto because of the absence of a properly constituted and functional state structure.
According to the group, while the movement has operational structures in several states, Sokoto lacks an effective framework capable of coordinating grassroots mobilisation and engaging its large youth population.
It therefore urged the national leadership of the movement to urgently review the existing arrangement in the state.
The coalition cited alleged insubordination to recognised party and government leadership, weak grassroots mobilisation, inadequate youth engagement and insufficient respect for established APC structures as some of its concerns.
It further alleged that the present structure had failed to build adequate relationships with party leaders, government officials, youth organisations, local coordinators and other grassroots stakeholders.
The group also expressed concern about the alleged appointment of non-indigenes to key positions within the state structure.
While stressing the importance of inclusiveness, it argued that local ownership and familiarity with Sokoto’s political terrain were necessary for effective grassroots mobilisation.
The coalition also criticised what it described as the limited presence and commitment of the State Director, insisting that whoever occupies such a position should be available to coordinate activities and engage stakeholders across the state.
It warned that allowing the alleged weaknesses to continue could create parallel loyalties, deepen political divisions and weaken the APC’s mobilisation ahead of 2027.
The group called for the appointment of a committed leader supported by a dedicated executive capable of coordinating activities across all 23 local government areas.
It also urged the national leadership to consult APC stakeholders, youth leaders and other relevant political actors in Sokoto before restructuring the movement.
The coalition stressed that its intervention was intended to strengthen rather than divide the APC, adding that it remained committed to mobilising support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration and APC candidates in the 2027 elections
