The security situation in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State has reportedly improved following the deployment of armoured vehicles and increased security personnel to the area.
Chairman of the local government, Alhaji Hashimu Dantudu, disclosed this at Tsamaye village while receiving a state government delegation led by APC leader and former governor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
The delegation was in the community to condole with residents over the death of the local APC chairman, Alhaji Amadu Malale.
Dantudu said the increased deployment of security assets had significantly reduced attacks by bandits.
“We are indeed witnessing the presence of security personnel in our area more than before,” he said.
He described the security situation as a “tremendous improvement” since the arrival of the armoured vehicles.
According to him, the increased presence of security forces had restored confidence among residents who had endured years of attacks, killings and kidnappings.
The council chairman commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for supporting security agencies with additional equipment.
“With the renewed commitment of the state government towards strengthening security, we are optimistic that banditry will soon become a thing of the past,” Dantudu said.
The government recently procured 62 armoured vehicles and 2,000 motorcycles for distribution to security agencies across Sokoto State.
Sabon Birni has been one of the areas most affected by banditry due to its proximity to communities facing cross-border criminal activities.
Dantudu said sustained security operations, intelligence gathering and cooperation between communities and security agencies would be necessary to consolidate the gains.
The improved security situation has raised cautious optimism among residents that the government and security agencies can restore stability, economic activity and normal life to communities affected by violence.
