Reps assure public of transparent investigation over death near National Assembly Complex
The House of Representatives has stressed that the discovery of a deceased individual near the National Assembly Complex in Abuja is under active police investigation.
According to a statement signed by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi , the body of an unidentified man was found on Sunday, September 7, 2025, inside a red Peugeot 406 vehicle parked close to the Annex Building Gate, near the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the National Assembly Division reported that the deceased, suspected to be a labourer working at a construction site within the complex, was discovered around 9 a.m. in a sleeping position on the back seat of the vehicle. The body was already in an advanced state of decomposition at the time of discovery.
“The body, discovered in a sleeping position on the back seat, was already in an advanced state of decomposition. The police have since evacuated the remains to the mortuary and confirmed that efforts are underway to establish the deceased’s identity and notify the family accordingly.
“The National Assembly is in close contact with the relevant security and emergency agencies to ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted. We commend the Nigeria Police Force for its swift response and will continue to monitor developments closely.
“The remains have since been evacuated to a mortuary, while efforts are ongoing to ascertain the man’s identity and notify his family.

“The House extended its condolences to the family and associates of the deceased, once identified, and pledged that further updates will be communicated transparently as investigations progress.
