The Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of additional security personnel to all examination centres across the country ahead of the forthcoming Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, assuring candidates and the public of their safety.
The Force said the move became necessary following what it described as unfounded rumours about the safety of some centres in a North Central state.
Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, disclosed that the enhanced security arrangement would involve both overt and covert operations, including routine patrols, perimeter surveillance, and the positioning of rapid response teams at strategic locations nationwide.
According to a statement he signed in Abuja on Tuesday, the police are also working in close collaboration with other security agencies to monitor and neutralise any potential threats.
The statement emphasised that any attempt by individuals or groups to disrupt the examination process would be met with swift action, warning that perpetrators would be identified and prosecuted.
“The Nigeria Police Force is aware of recent unfounded rumours regarding the safety of certain centres for the forthcoming JAMB examination scheduled to commence on April 16, 2026.
These claims are without basis,” the statement read.It added that while the Force does not act on rumours, it recognises public concern over the safety and future of candidates and has therefore taken proactive measures to ensure a secure examination environment.
The police reassured candidates, parents, and the general public that adequate arrangements have been made to guarantee a safe and conducive atmosphere for the exams.
Candidates were advised to arrive early at their centres, comply with examination guidelines, and report any suspicious activity to security personnel on ground.
The Force also urged members of the public to disregard unverified information on social media and rely only on official updates from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and the police.
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding national activities, the police expressed appreciation to citizens and other security agencies for their cooperation toward ensuring a smooth and secure examination process.
