The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has attributed the ongoing leadership crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the actions of its former presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.In a statement issued Thursday in Lagos by its National Secretary, Mr. Ogini Olaposi, the party said it was “not surprised” by the internal challenges facing the ADC, while also expressing sympathy with the party.The NNPP’s reaction followed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition of the ADC leadership, including David Mark as chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as secretary.INEC said the move was in compliance with a Court of Appeal order directing that the status quo within the party be maintained.Responding, the NNPP alleged that the crisis was a fallout of actions linked to Kwankwaso and Buba Galadima, particularly their alleged attempt to take control of the NNPP.“We are not surprised by the development. The leadership of ADC failed to realise that the current situation is a consequence of the actions of Kwankwaso and Buba Galadima in their attempt to hijack NNPP,” the statement said.The party further accused the duo of unlawfully altering its logo and party colours without due consent, describing the move as a grave violation.According to NNPP, the party was registered in 2001, while Kwankwaso and members of the Kwankwasiyya movement only joined in 2022 to contest the 2023 general elections.It noted that while Kwankwaso lost the presidential election, some of his supporters secured victories in Kano State and at various levels, including the National Assembly.The party also faulted ADC for accommodating Kwankwaso and his associates without what it described as reconciliation with NNPP leadership.Describing the situation as regrettable, NNPP maintained that neither INEC nor the ruling party was responsible for the ADC’s internal crisis.It urged the ADC to prevail on Kwankwaso and Galadima to seek forgiveness from NNPP members, warning that failure to do so could prolong the crisis.The party further advised ADC not to bear the consequences of actions it did not initiate, while alleging that Kwankwaso mismanaged political gains and failed to address internal contradictions within his political base.
