Wike Fires Back at Bala Mohammed, Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP Amid Project Inspections

Wike Fires Back at Bala Mohammed, Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP Amid Project InspectionsThe Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday escalated political tensions within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing allegations that he is working to undermine the party, while simultaneously reaffirming his loyalty to it.Wike, who spoke during an inspection of ongoing infrastructural projects across the FCT, took aim at Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, describing his claims that he (Wike) was planted to destabilise the PDP as “embarrassing” and “hypocritical.”The minister argued that many of those accusing him of anti-party activities had either defected or aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), questioning their moral standing to make such allegations.“If they are accusing me of being an agent to destroy the party, and they have now left to join the APC, who then is the real agent?” Wike queried, insisting he remains committed to the PDP despite openly supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The FCT minister further criticised Bala Mohammed’s political trajectory, accusing him of inconsistency and shifting alliances. He cited instances where the governor allegedly distanced himself from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar before later reconciling and reportedly aligning with other political platforms, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC).The exchange underscores deepening cracks within the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections, with internal divisions increasingly playing out in public. While addressing the political controversy, Wike also used the occasion to highlight the progress of key infrastructure projects in the FCT, noting that several major roads are on track for commissioning in May as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office. He expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and assured that the administration would continue to monitor contractors closely to ensure timely delivery, stressing that governance must translate into tangible benefits for residents.
