Ndume Seeks Special Priority for North-East in Tinubu’s 2025 Supplementary, 2026 Budgets

Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has called on President Bola Tinubu to initiate special priority projects for the North-East, stressing the urgent need to tackle the region’s lingering infrastructural deficits caused by years of insurgency.

Ndume’s appeal followed a recent meeting between President Tinubu and the six governors of the North-East, where they highlighted 17 critical road projects that have been abandoned for decades.

“Fifteen years down the line, there hasn’t been any meaningful infrastructural development in the North-East as the region has been ravaged by insurgents,” Ndume said.

He urged the federal government to make provisions for these projects in the 2025 Supplementary Budget and the 2026 budget proposal.

“Now that insurgents have receded, thanks to the efforts of our military who have regained lost grounds, contractors can now move to sites,” he added.

Among the major projects identified are the Kano-Maiduguri Road, Port Harcourt-Jos-Bauchi-Maiduguri Railway Line, Bama-Mubi-Yola Road, Wukari-Jalingo-Yola Road, Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Damaturu Road, and Damaturu-Geidam Road. Others include the Gombe-Potiskum Road, Maiduguri-Monguno-Baga Road, and Maiduguri-Ngala-Bama-Banki Road.

Ndume also backed the North-East Governors Forum’s push for the resumption of oil exploration in the Kolmani and Lake Chad frontier basins, commending the governors for taking bold steps toward boosting the region’s economy.

He encouraged them to continue pursuing initiatives that would improve the lives of citizens across the North-East.
