Mutfwang Praises Tinubu Over Approval of 1,000 Forest Guards for Plateau
Jos — Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to bolster security in the state.
The governor gave the commendation on Thursday during the President’s visit to Jos to sympathise with families affected by the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba community, Jos North Local Government Area.

Mutfwang expressed gratitude for the President’s continued support, noting that the approval of the forest guards would significantly strengthen the state’s security architecture.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank President Tinubu for all he has been doing for our state,” he said. “Let me also appreciate the approval for the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to complement our security network. This will soon become a reality, alongside other interventions you have made.”
He recalled that the approval, granted in January, is expected to enhance efforts to tackle insecurity across Plateau.
While acknowledging the sombre nature of the visit, the governor prayed for a return under more positive circumstances.

“Today’s visit is to console and commiserate with us. We will not take away from the soberness of this moment, but we are deeply grateful for your presence,” he added.
Mutfwang also appreciated the President’s support for Nentawe Yilwatda as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), assuring him of the state’s backing.
He further lauded the approval for the dualisation of the Akwanga-Jos road, describing it as a critical infrastructure project for the region.
Speaking during the visit, President Tinubu announced plans to enhance surveillance in the state through the installation of 5,000 cameras to aid security agencies in identifying perpetrators of violence.
“We are going to immediately install a network of cameras that will help law enforcement agencies identify troublemakers,” the President said.
He urged residents and community leaders to work together to end the cycle of violence, emphasising unity and peaceful coexistence.
“We must break the shackles of violence, ignorance, poverty and hopelessness together,” he added.
Also speaking, APC National Chairman, Prof. Yilwatda, stressed the need to rebuild trust between communities and security agencies, noting that areas such as Wase and Kanam have also suffered attacks leading to loss of lives and property.
“Beyond security deployments, we must restore confidence between citizens and security institutions to effectively curb these attacks,” he said.
In the same vein, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed plans to deploy advanced surveillance infrastructure across Plateau, starting with Jos.
“This is not an empty promise. We are deploying AI-enabled camera networks that have already proven effective in other parts of the country,” he stated.
