Former Senate President, David Mark, on Wednesday sought to douse growing tensions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), assuring members and Nigerians that the situation poses no threat to the party’s unity.
His intervention comes amid a sensitive period for the party, as internal disagreements and competing claims have fueled uncertainty over its readiness for the 2027 general elections.
Mark, who is also the party’s embattled National Chairman, spoke during a church service held in his honour to celebrate his 78th birthday.
Addressing concerns over the unfolding developments, he said there was no need for panic, describing the situation as part of the party’s growth process.
According to him, challenges are inevitable in any evolving institution and should not be mistaken for disintegration.
He maintained that despite the tensions, the party’s leadership and members remain united and committed to strengthening its structures and upholding democratic ideals.
Mark also linked the stability of the party to the broader health of Nigeria’s democracy, reaffirming its commitment to national development and democratic consolidation.
He said the ADC would continue to work with discipline, integrity and patriotism to ensure that democratic institutions deliver meaningful benefits to citizens.
