The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has announced May 30 as the date for its presidential primary, alongside a reduction in nomination fees for aspirants seeking elective positions ahead of the 2027 general election.

The decisions were reached during the party’s 25th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, signalling early preparations to strengthen its structures and encourage wider participation.

In a communiqué issued by the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Egbeola Martins, the party unveiled a detailed timetable beginning with ward congresses on May 21 and concluding with the presidential primary and national convention on May 30.

Local government congresses are scheduled for May 22, followed by state congresses on May 23. Primaries for state Houses of Assembly will hold on May 24, while those for the House of Representatives and Senate are fixed for May 25. Governorship primaries are slated for May 26.

The NEC approved nomination fees of N1.5 million for House of Assembly aspirants, N3 million for House of Representatives, N8 million for Senate, N20 million for governorship, and N50 million for the presidential ticket. The expression of interest form remains free.

The party also granted a 50 per cent discount on nomination fees for women, persons living with disabilities, and aspirants below the age of 40.
In Anambra State, the NEC resolved to zone the position of State Chairman to the Central Senatorial District, while retaining the State Secretary position in the Southern Senatorial District.

Additionally, the party launched a three-day Membership Drive Challenge to boost nationwide registration and urged stakeholders to mobilise effectively.
On candidate selection, the NEC stated that both consensus and direct primary methods would be adopted in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.

The party also raised concern over the worsening security situation across the country, particularly rising cases of kidnapping and attacks.

“The apparent impunity with which these criminal elements operate across all regions of the country,” the party stated, condemning what it described as unchecked criminality.

Calling for decisive action, the party urged the President to act swiftly.
“The continuous loss of lives, including those of gallant military personnel is unacceptable and demands immediate and effective action,” YPP said.
