ABUJA — Suspected members of Boko Haram/ISWAP on Thursday evening launched another attack on Kautikari village in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, forcing residents to flee for safety.
According to local sources and fleeing villagers, the insurgents stormed the community, firing sporadically and setting houses ablaze, as terrified residents escaped into nearby bushes.
The latest assault comes barely a month after a similar attack on March 30, 2026, when armed fighters invaded the predominantly Christian community around 6 p.m., killing several residents.
Among those reportedly killed in the earlier incident were the Commanding Officer of local hunters, Mallam Bumto, who had arrived from Lagos a day before, and Mr. Johanna Peter, whose wedding was scheduled for March 31 at a local church. Several other residents also lost their lives.
That attack led to mass displacement, with food supplies and livestock looted before residents gradually returned to rebuild their homes.
A security operative from the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the renewed ആക്രമment but said casualty figures were yet to be determined.
“Yes, our community is under attack. I received a distress call around 6:50 p.m. on Thursday.
We cannot confirm casualties yet as people are fleeing while the attackers continue their assault,” the source said.
Further details are expected as the situation unfolds.
