…. Alleges Police Compromising Justice For Mine With False Narrative
By Daniel Echono
ASABA – NIGERIA Police Force remain mum as crime fighter activist, Harrison Gwamishu, alleges in new revelation that the three Police Inspectors arrested and dismissed along with ASP Nuhu Usman, killer of Oghenemine Ogidi in Delta state are wrong accomplices.
Gwanishu whose viral video on the 26 April Effurun Motor Park shooting of Oghenemine (Mine) sparked public outrage noted that though those dismissed along with Usman, aka ‘Ogbegbe’, were part of the Effurun Area Command’s Surveillance Team Usman leads, they were not the ones with him at the park shooting.
According to Gwamishu the accomplices who drove into the park with Ogbegbe and aided his shooting of Mine, evolving Warri music star, were two civilians simply identified as Efe and Godwin.
The activist who said he has been under threat for exposing the gruesome murder accused Inspector Generator of Police, IG Tunji Disu of pushing a false narrative on the incident to compromise justice for the victim.
Recall that in preliminary Police response to the incident, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Edafe Bright had disclosed that, “The entire team of five (Ogbegbe led Surveillance Team) was taken to the Force Headquarters.
“It behoves on the other team members to have restrained Usman from doing what he did. The video at no point showed they did that. So the other team members are also culpable.”
And acting on the report of the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) after interface with the suspects, IG Disu ordered immediate dismissal and prosecution of “ASP Usman and other officers” involved in the killing of 28-year-old Mine.
Faulting the IG’s actions, Gwamishu said, “Usman got to the park in a Toyota Sennia van in company of two persons to pick Oghenemine Ogidi, aka OG Million, who was held by the park management.
“These two persons he went there with are not Police officers. They are civilians. ACP Aliyu Shaba, Effurun Area Commander and his team are fund of handing police t-shirts to civilians to join operations.
“In the video of the park shooting, the guy who assisted Usman to fix his faulty magazine is named as Efe. He is not a police officer anywhere in Nigeria.
“Efe and Godwin, another civilian were the duo on the video who accompanied Usman to the park shooting. They were together in this mess with Usman and they’re not police officers.
“So which teammate did the police arrest and paraded with Usman? Those arrested and dismissed along with Usman were not involved in committing the offence of the murder of ‘Mine.
“Though they’re Inspectors who are official teammates of ACP Usman led Surveillance Team, they were not those with him when he shot Mine. It was a Sunday and they were even not on duty.
“The two civilians, Efe and Godwin, that went with Usman for the park shooting are not among those that have been arrested with Usman.
“So those arrested along with Usman are innocent. They were invited as teammates of Usman, but not connected with the killing of Mine.
“It’s unfortunate and unclear why the IGP dismissed and released them for court trial along with Usman. Definitely when trial starts for the suspects, the trio of teammates seen arrested with Usman would be discharged, Acquitted and reinstated into the Force.
“They are innocent, they did not partake in the killing of Mine, reason why their names have not been mentioned at any point in the police intervention on matter.
“Notice even the IG evaded mention of their names. He simply stated Usman and other officers will be dismissed. They have no case to answer.
“That brings us to the basic question, the Efe and Godwin, the real accomplices with Usman, where are they? They both committed the murder with Usman. They should provide them and stop are lying.
“If you want to give us justice, do it in truth. Do it transparently and not being cunning. We’re dealing with a human life. You people killed somebody in broad day light and tried to hide it, the whole world saw it.
“Present the two civilians accomplices with Usman?
They (Police) want to push a false narrative, pushing forward Usman so they won’t own up to glaring police irregularities in this case, from the Area Commander, ACP Shaba, who engages civilians in his operations.
“My appeal to the Nigeria Bar Association and National Assembly is, please get involved in this matter. This case may well bring an end to police excesses and your intervention would matter in seeing justice on this case.
“I’m receiving threats from some quarters to desist from talking on this issue. They threatened that they would turn a case I have in Benin against me. I don’t care. IG you have not done well on this matter. Be neutral.”
Meanwhile when contact on Gwamishu’s new revelation, Delta PPRO, SP Bright, acting on standard procedure, told Vanguard he was no longer in position to give updates as “The case is currently being investigated by Monitoring Unit in Abuja.”
However, efforts to get the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) DCP Anthony Okon Placid to respond did not materialize as there was no response to call and chat messages at the time of filling this report.
As Police remain mum, the new angle to the Oghenemine tragedy has escalated tension among citizens who warn that IG Disu must be seen to honestly practice the commitment to eradicating impunity he preaches for the Police under his Command.
