Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered weapons and other items during an intelligence-led operation in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was conducted by troops of Sector 2 deployed at Zak village on Saturday, August 29, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities and deny terrorists freedom of action within the Joint Operations Area.
Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, said the troops intercepted a green Golf vehicle with registration number DKA-808XM during a stop-and-search operation.
He said the troops discovered a specially fabricated and concealed compartment inside the vehicle’s dashboard.
According to him, the driver refused to open the compartment and fled into a nearby bush.
The troops pursued and apprehended him.
“Upon being apprehended, the driver attempted to disarm one of the soldiers and was swiftly neutralised,” Oteh said.
Items recovered from the vehicle included two AK-47 rifles, magazines, two wooden rifle butts, nine magazine pouches, two camel bags, six jungle hats, a mobile phone and an ATM card.
The Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Maxwell Dangana, commended the troops for their decisive action.
He urged them to sustain the momentum in ongoing offensive operations against criminal elements across the Joint Operations Area.
Dangana also called on residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and actionable information to assist in protecting lives and property.
