Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have ambushed members of the Lakurawa terrorist group in Kebbi State, forcing them to flee and abandoning logistics and communication equipment.
The troops, deployed for counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations in the state, acted on credible intelligence about the movement of the terrorists towards Ugwan Hassan village in Dandi Local Government Area.
According to the Army spokesperson, Lieutenant Osoba, the troops swiftly mobilised and established a tactical ambush at a known crossing point near the village.
He said the terrorists were intercepted while attempting to transit through the area to carry out an attack.
After an initial exchange of fire, the troops overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their mission and retreat in disarray.
Items recovered from the fleeing terrorists included two motorcycles, mobile phones, T&T communication radios and a Nigerien identity card belonging to one of the group members from the Tillabéri Region of Niger Republic.
“The troops are currently dominating the general area with aggressive patrols and are in active pursuit of the fleeing terrorists to ensure the continued safety and security of the local populace,” Osoba said.
The operation is the latest in a series of military offensives against terrorist and armed groups in the North-West as security forces intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace across the region.
