ABUJA — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians and supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) not to celebrate prematurely, despite the Supreme Court’s endorsement of Senator David Mark’s leadership of the party.
Atiku said the apex court’s ruling, while significant, should be seen as only the beginning of a broader political contest ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His remarks signal a transition from legal triumph to political mobilisation, as the opposition seeks to translate its courtroom success into electoral strength.
In a statement, Atiku described the judgment as both a confirmation of the party’s leadership structure and a reminder of the work that lies ahead.
“Even as we welcome the Supreme Court’s firm affirmation of Senator David Mark and the leadership of our great party, the African Democratic Congress, no one should be lulled into complacency,” he said.
He added that the victory belongs to Nigerians who remain committed to shaping the country’s future, stressing that the journey towards national renewal is far from complete.
“This victory belongs to Nigerians, the millions who have refused to surrender their future. The road ahead remains long in our collective mission to reclaim and rebuild our country,” Atiku stated.
Calling for sustained engagement, the former presidential candidate urged party faithful to remain resolute as political activities intensify.
“We thank them, and we urge them to remain steadfast, because the struggle is far from over. As we press on, let this enduring truth guide us: eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,” he added.
The Supreme Court ruling is expected to stabilise the ADC following months of internal wrangling, allowing the party to refocus on strategy, coalition-building and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the next electoral cycle.
