he Nigerian Army has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging an attack on the residence of Catholic Bishop Matthew Kukah and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral, describing the claims as false and misleading.In a statement issued on Saturday by the 8 Division Nigerian Army in conjunction with Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the military said the viral Facebook post claiming that gunmen attacked the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sokoto and the cathedral was entirely fabricated.The Army stated that findings from its investigations confirmed that no such incident occurred anywhere in Sokoto State.“We categorically debunk these unfounded claims as there was no attack on the residence of Bishop Matthew Kukah or the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral,” the statement said.It added that the cleric remains safe and is currently carrying out his Easter activities without any disruption, assuring that security around him and the cathedral is fully guaranteed.
The military further reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, noting that it is working closely with other security agencies to maintain peace across the state.“The Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Sokoto State,” it added.The Army also disclosed that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a peaceful Easter celebration.The statement was signed by Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army, on behalf of the command.
