SOKOTO:- The All Progressives Congress in Sokoto State on Saturday conducted its House of Representatives primary elections across the state’s 11 federal constituencies ahead of the 2027 general elections, with consensus candidates emerging in 10 constituencies.
The exercise, monitored by party officials and delegates across the state, reflected the party’s growing drive to consolidate internal cohesion as preparations gather momentum for the next electoral cycle.
Findings showed that candidates in most constituencies emerged through affirmation and consensus arrangements endorsed by party delegates, while a keenly contested election was held in the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency.
Among the aspirants affirmed by delegates were Ahmad Kalambaina for Kware/Wamakko Federal Constituency, Almustapha Ibrahim for Wurno/Rabah, Hassan Abubakar for Sokoto North/Sokoto South, and Nasiru Shehu Bodinga for Bodinga/Tureta/Dange-Shuni Federal Constituency.
Others who secured affirmation include Saidu Mohammed, Abubakar Zayyana, Sa’adu Abubakar Binji, and Abba Shehu Tambuwal.
However, voting was ongoing in the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency as delegates continued to decide between Professor Musa Garba and Abubakar Umar Shagari at the time of filing this report.
Speaking during the affirmation exercise in the Bodinga/Tureta/Dange-Shuni Federal Constituency, the Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga, described the process as peaceful and reflective of the confidence reposed in the lawmaker by constituents across the three local government areas.
“What you are seeing here today is colourful and encouraging. We are pleased that he has no opposition within the constituency. The people have endorsed him for a second term,” he said.
He noted that the large turnout of delegates and party faithful demonstrated unity within the party and confidence in the leadership of the APC in the state.
Responding after his affirmation, Nasiru Shehu Bodinga expressed appreciation to party leaders, delegates, and supporters for the trust placed in him.
“I sincerely appreciate this confidence and support. I assure you that I will redouble my efforts in ensuring quality representation and delivering more dividends of democracy to our people,” he said.
Political observers say the largely consensus based primaries may strengthen the ruling party’s internal stability in Sokoto State ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly as parties begin early mobilisation and strategic alignments across the country.
