The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Tinubu for lifting the state of emergency earlier imposed on Rivers State, warning those he called conflict merchants to stay away from the state.
Describing Tinubu’s decision as a restoration of democracy and peace in the oil-rich state, Wike in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said Tinubu’s intervention had saved Rivers from sliding into deeper crisis while reinforcing citizens’ confidence in his leadership.
The former Rivers governor praised the people of the state for their continuous support for President Tinubu, noting that such solidarity was vital to the administration’s efforts at returning the country to the path of stability, progress and development.
He, however, warned “conflict merchants” and political opportunists against exploiting the situation for personal gain, stressing that Rivers had turned a new page.
“From Rivers State going forward, the only news that will emanate will be that of peace, progress and development,” Wike declared.
Calling on all stakeholders to work harmoniously in the collective interest of the state, the minister assured that President Tinubu’s action had laid the foundation for sustainable stability in Rivers.
