The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the nationwide rollout of the Flow with Confidence Menstrual Hygiene Packs, a flagship initiative aimed at tackling period poverty among schoolgirls.
Speaking at the flag-off in Gombe, Mrs. Tinubu described the programme as a life-changing menstrual health intervention designed to restore dignity, boost confidence, and keep girls in school.
“In today’s modern world, no girl should have to miss school because she cannot afford sanitary products,” she said. “It is unacceptable that many of our girls, especially in rural communities, still miss classes every month, resort to unsafe alternatives, or even drop out of school altogether. This intervention under the Renewed Hope Initiative seeks to end that cycle.”
She announced that each state and the FCT will receive 10,000 packs of disposable pads through the State First Ladies and RHI Coordinators, targeted at girls in underserved communities. Each beneficiary will get a one-year supply of sanitary pads. In Gombe, Mrs. Tinubu presented 10,000 packs to the State First Lady for immediate distribution.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, and the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, pledged federal support to expand the programme to reach more girls.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe commended Mrs. Tinubu’s humanitarian drive across health, agriculture, economic empowerment, and education.
Earlier, the First Lady declared open the maiden Gombe State Health Summit, where she stressed that health must be seen not only as a social service but as a driver of economic growth and national development.
During her two-day visit, Mrs. Tinubu was also conferred with the traditional title of Sarauniya Yakin Kumo (Queen Warrior of Kumo) by the Emir of Akko, HRH Alhaji Umaru Muh’d Atiku.
