Banditry: Sokoto governor meets IGP in Abuja….pledges sustained support for security agenciesSokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in the fight against banditry, stressing that protecting lives and property must remain a collective responsibility.Aliyu gave the assurance on Wednesday during a visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.The meeting comes amid persistent security challenges in parts of the North-West, with the governor calling for stronger collaboration between state authorities and federal security institutions to tackle banditry and violent crimes.He said his administration has continued to provide logistical support to security operatives, noting that over 200 patrol vehicles have been procured and distributed to enhance operations, especially in vulnerable communities.“Security remains a top priority under my administration, and we are committed to partnering with the police and other security agencies to strengthen safety across the state,” he said.The governor, while acknowledging progress made by security forces, urged them to intensify efforts, emphasizing the importance of improved intelligence gathering and information sharing in dismantling criminal networks.He also called for greater synergy among security agencies, noting that coordinated operations would yield more effective results in combating banditry.Aliyu commended former Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Musa, for his contributions to security efforts, describing him as dedicated and professional. He urged the current Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan, to build on the existing foundation and sustain the momentum.Congratulating the IGP on his appointment, the governor expressed confidence in his leadership to strengthen ongoing efforts to restore peace nationwide.In his response, the Inspector-General of Police, Disu, commended the Sokoto State Government for its consistent support, assuring that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to work closely with the state to enhance security and ensure the safety of residents.The governor was accompanied on the visit by the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, and his Chief of Staff, Aminu Haliru Dikko.
