Renewed Hope Estate: FG Gives Contractors Six-Month Deadline to Complete Nasarawa Housing Project

The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has issued a six-month ultimatum to contractors handling the Renewed Hope Estate Project in Nasarawa State to expedite work and ensure timely delivery.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Shuaib Belgore, gave the directive during a working visit to the project site, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of construction.

According to a statement signed by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Affairs, Badamasi Haiba, Dr. Belgore emphasized that the project must be completed within the next six months in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Housing Agenda.

To fast-track progress, the Permanent Secretary convened an urgent meeting with the contractors to address challenges and eliminate bottlenecks affecting implementation.

“He expressed concern over the slow pace of work by the contractors and stressed that all obstacles must be resolved immediately,” the statement read. “While road layout, electricity, and water supply works are progressing steadily, building construction has suffered noticeable delays.”

Belgore directed the Director of Public Buildings to summon the contractors handling the structural components of the project for a frank discussion on accelerating work.

“The contractors must sit up and get the job done. We cannot allow this project to drag indefinitely. If delays persist, we will not hesitate to re-award the contracts to more serious firms,” he warned.

He also instructed the Federal Controller of Housing in Nasarawa State to collaborate with the state government to finalize the reallocation of land previously affected by gully erosion and to ensure full documentation of the new site for smooth project continuation.

Reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to delivering quality and affordable housing, Belgore assured that every effort would be made to meet the project’s completion target for the benefit of Nigerians.

Earlier, the Federal Controller, Nasarawa State Field Office, Tpl. Bashiru Garba, explained that the initial delay was due to erosion that damaged part of the previously allocated land. He confirmed that the state government has since provided an alternative site.

Garba added that the Renewed Hope Estate project comprises 250 housing blocks being developed by San Afar Nigeria Limited and Al Yuma Ventures and Investment Limited, with about 125 blocks currently at 30 percent completion.
