Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has ordered the immediate evacuation of Kogi indigenes studying at the University of Jos following rising insecurity and disruption of academic activities in parts of Plateau State.The directive comes amid recent violent attacks in Plateau State that have heightened fear among residents and members of the university community, prompting concerns over the safety of students, particularly those living off-campus.In a statement issued by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, the governor said the evacuation was a proactive step to safeguard the lives of Kogi students affected by the deteriorating security situation.He noted that students remain especially vulnerable during crises, making urgent government intervention necessary to prevent further risk to their safety.Governor Ododo further disclosed that the Special Adviser on Youth and Students Matters, Oladele Nihi, has been deployed alongside a delegation already in Jos to coordinate the safe and orderly evacuation process.He added that arrangements have been concluded to transport the students back to Kogi State under adequate security, in collaboration with relevant agencies.The governor commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for their efforts to restore calm in Plateau State, expressing confidence that ongoing operations would lead to lasting peace and accountability for recent attacks.Ododo reassured parents and guardians that the welfare of Kogi students remains a top priority of his administration, urging the students to remain calm and cooperate with officials handling the evacuation.He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all Kogi citizens, both within and outside the state, while pledging continued monitoring of the situation in Jos for further necessary action.
