Tinubu to Visit Ogun, Commissions Airport, Airline, Multi-Sector Infrastructure Projects

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is scheduled to visit Ogun State on Saturday for the commissioning and inspection of a series of major infrastructure projects spanning aviation, transport, security, agriculture, and logistics.The visit will feature the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport in Iperu, a flagship aviation project aimed at positioning Ogun State as a key air transport and logistics hub in Nigeria. Within the airport complex, the President will also commission two aircraft acquired under the state-owned Gateway Air initiative, developed in partnership with ValueJet, marking the formal commencement of the airline’s operations.In addition, President Tinubu is expected to witness a cargo operations demonstration facilitated by the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL), highlighting the airport’s readiness for freight and logistics services.As part of the aviation infrastructure rollout, several supporting assets will also be unveiled, including 1,000 electric bikes under the state’s e-mobility programme, 80 security vehicles to enhance airport safety, and a fleet of agricultural tractors intended to support food production and rural farmers.The President will also commission the Ilishan–Iperu Airport Road, which provides critical access to the new airport facility, as well as inspect the Nigeria Customs Service Village and commission a Forward Operating Base (FOB) building designed to strengthen border security and trade facilitation.Other highlights of the visit include the inspection and commissioning of the Gateway Aviation Village, a development project designed to support aviation-related services and infrastructure within the state.Tinubu will further commission the reconstructed Old Ibadan Road (Sapade–Ilishan Road), which has been renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway in honour of the President. The road is expected to significantly improve connectivity and boost commercial activities across the corridor.The President’s itinerary will also include an inspection of the Sagamu–Benin Concrete Road, a major federal transport project aimed at improving traffic flow along one of the country’s busiest highways.According to the Ogun State Government, the projects form part of a broader development agenda aimed at transforming the state into a modern economic and industrial hub. The visit is also expected to underscore cooperation between the federal and state governments in driving infrastructure-led growth.
