Healthcare delivery in Gombe State received a major boost on Friday with the commissioning of a 100-bed Maternal and Child Specialist Hospital and an ultra-modern College of Nursing and Midwifery, projects aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality in the region.

The hospital, named after Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to significantly expand access to quality healthcare services for mothers and children across the state.

Speaking during the event, Senator Tinubu said the facilities represent more than just new buildings, but symbols of hope and healthier futures for Nigerian families. She emphasized that maternal and child health is central to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Every Nigerian child deserves a healthy start in life, and no mother should lose her life while giving birth,” she said, urging medical professionals and community leaders to ensure the hospital delivers care with “excellence, compassion, and integrity.”

The First Lady commended the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for spearheading the projects, noting that they align with global targets to reduce preventable deaths and improve healthcare systems.

In addition to the hospital, she inaugurated the newly built College of Nursing and Midwifery, where she interacted with students who expressed gratitude for the facility, which is expected to produce more skilled health workers for the state and beyond.

Stakeholders at the event described the dual projects as transformative, highlighting their potential to address the acute shortage of medical infrastructure and trained personnel in the North-East region.
