Staff and patients at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos were briefly gripped by fear following widespread rumours of an impending terrorist attack targeting the facility and its medical personnel.
The rumours, which circulated late Tuesday, reportedly heightened anxiety within the hospital, with some patients requesting early discharge over safety concerns.
However, the hospital management has debunked the claims, describing them as misleading and unfounded. In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer, Talatu Achan Angi, the management clarified that the situation had been misrepresented.
According to the statement, the memo cited in the viral report was an internal communication intended for routine security sensitisation of staff, in line with prevailing security realities.
“The attention of the management has been drawn to a social media publication alleging tension in the hospital over a terrorist plot.
This is a misinterpretation of an internal memo aimed at encouraging vigilance,” the statement explained.
The management stressed that there is no disruption within the hospital, noting that both staff and patients are going about their normal activities, while clinical services continue uninterrupted.
It further urged the public to ignore sensational reports capable of inciting panic and undermining the relative peace in the state.
Reassuring patients and residents, the hospital maintained that it remains safe, fully operational, and committed to delivering quality healthcare services, encouraging the public not to hesitate in seeking medical attention when needed.
