Tinubu Will Win Re-election on Performance, Not Promises — Education Minister

By Rosemary Nwankpa, Abuja

Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has declared that President Bola Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term in the 2027 presidential election will rest on his administration’s performance rather than campaign promises, citing what he described as the positive impact of ongoing economic reforms.

Speaking during an interview in Abuja, Alausa said the President’s bold policy decisions had begun to reposition Nigeria’s economy, with improvements in key economic indicators providing evidence that the reforms were yielding results.

According to the minister, the Tinubu administration has fulfilled critical commitments made to Nigerians by implementing structural reforms designed to restore macroeconomic stability, strengthen investor confidence and place the country on the path of sustainable growth.

“The progress we are witnessing is not political rhetoric. It is supported by credible data and independent assessments that show Nigeria is moving in the right direction,” Alausa said.

He pointed to reports by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, Bloomberg and Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) as indicators that the country’s economic outlook is improving and confidence among investors is gradually returning.

The minister noted that inflation was beginning to ease, economic activities were expanding and other macroeconomic indicators were showing steady improvement, describing the developments as evidence that the administration’s reform agenda was beginning to produce tangible outcomes.

Alausa maintained that President Tinubu’s economic policies were designed to deliver long-term benefits rather than short-term political gains.

“The President is focused on building a stronger Nigeria for generations to come. These reforms are not designed for short-term gains but to create lasting prosperity. There is no value in making difficult decisions if they cannot stand the test of time,” he said.

He further stated that the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline, sound economic management and structural reforms had strengthened the nation’s economic foundation and positioned Nigeria for inclusive growth and increased productivity.

Expressing confidence ahead of the 2027 general election, the minister argued that as more Nigerians begin to experience the benefits of the reforms, President Tinubu’s record in office would become his strongest campaign message.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to deepening its economic reform agenda, improving the welfare of citizens and advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing optimism that the gains already recorded would translate into lasting prosperity for Nigerians.
