Kebbi State recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against banditry on Friday as security operatives neutralized three notorious Lakurawa terrorists during a prolonged gun duel in Gorun Yamma village, Dandi Local Government Area.

The State Police Command confirmed that the operation was carried out by a joint team of police officers and vigilante groups, following intelligence reports that led to the interception of the armed gang.

Police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer of Kamba, Muhammed Bello, led the offensive that lasted several hours, forcing the heavily armed bandits to retreat into the forest with gunshot wounds after suffering heavy casualties. An unregistered vehicle and weapons abandoned by the fleeing criminals were also recovered.

Commending the bravery of the operatives, Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, vowed that the command will continue to make the state uninhabitable for criminal gangs. He praised the synergy between security forces and local vigilantes, describing it as key to sustaining recent gains against insurgents.

“We will not relent until Kebbi becomes too hot for bandits to operate. Our men must continue to work hand in hand with other security agencies and community outfits to achieve lasting peace,” he said.

The latest success adds to ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks threatening rural communities in the state, offering renewed hope to residents of border communities plagued by terror gangs.
