Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, on Saturday stepped into Damboa with a firm message of solidarity and renewed determination, declaring that the state stands solidly behind frontline troops battling Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.
In an emotional but resolute address to soldiers of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Zulum praised what he described as their “giant effort and supreme sacrifice” in defending Borno, even in the face of recent devastating losses.
His visit came days after Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists ambushed security operatives, killing soldiers, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, and the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Musa Uba. The governor said the tragedy underscores the urgency of strengthening the state’s security architecture.
“We are here purposely to commiserate with you over the recent setback which claimed the lives of your colleagues,” Zulum told the troops.
“It is painful, but let me assure you: the government and people of Borno are behind you. We will do everything humanly possible, within our resources, to support your mission to end this crisis.”
He prayed for the quick recovery of wounded officers and urged the troops not to lose morale, adding that their sacrifices remain the backbone of Borno’s fragile stability.
The governor was received by the newly deployed Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Igwe Patrick Omokeh.
Security Reinforcement Takes Centre Stage
Zulum’s visit to Damboa was part of a broader security-and-relief tour of southern Borno, where communities have come under intensified attacks in recent weeks. Earlier in Chibok, the governor met grieving families, offering not only condolences but also concrete reassurances that stronger security interventions were underway.
“The situation is painful,” he said during the Chibok meeting.
“But I assure you, by God’s grace, insecurity in Chibok will be permanently addressed. We are taking action, in collaboration with the federal government and security agencies, to protect these communities.”
Zulum commended residents for refusing to abandon their homes despite the trauma, describing their resilience as “encouraging and inspiring.”
A State Under Siege—but Not Defeated
With renewed attacks threatening pockets of the state, Zulum’s engagements in Damboa and Chibok project a strategic shift: strengthening military morale while assuring residents that government intervention is not only ongoing but intensifying.
The governor said the coming weeks would see coordinated measures focusing on community protection, improved intelligence, and logistical support for frontline troops.
