Local fishermen on Tuesday rescued a yet-to-be-identified man who reportedly jumped into the Lagos Lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge in an apparent suicide attempt.
According to eyewitness accounts, the man had earlier parked his vehicle, bearing registration number KTU 453 JY, on the bridge before leaping into the water.
Swift intervention by fishermen in the area, however, prevented what could have been a fatal incident, as they successfully pulled him out of the lagoon alive.
A video circulating on social media captured the moment after the rescue, showing the man seated in a moving canoe.
The footage was shared by social commentator Isaac Fayose, who called for increased attention to people’s mental and emotional well-being.“Please, check on your family and friends.
This just happened today. Who knows what went wrong,” he wrote. As of the time of filing this report, the motive behind the man’s action remains unclear.
