President Bola Tinubu on Friday swore in Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, following his confirmation by the Senate.

Dr. Darma, an indigene of Katsina State, takes over from Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who recently stepped down from the position.

Speaking during the brief ceremony at the State House, the President congratulated the new minister, describing his appointment as coming at a critical period in the nation’s development. He expressed confidence in Darma’s competence and experience, noting that his track record in previous assignments made him well-suited for the role.

Tinubu also urged the new minister to remain prepared for service in any capacity required in advancing national goals.

Darma is an accomplished scholar, administrator, and development expert. He holds a Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool and a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Atlantic International University.

He earned his first degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bayero University Kano and later obtained a Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Benin.

A member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Management, Darma previously served as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund between 2008 and 2012. He also held key roles in Katsina State, including Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, as well as Commissioner for Rural and Social Development.

Beyond public service, he has contributed to academia as a lecturer at Bayero University, Kano, and is widely published in governance and development studies. Prior to his appointment, he was President of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Human Development Centre.
