The Bayelsa State Police Command has paraded 26 suspects linked to various crimes, including armed robbery, cultism, and illegal possession of firearms, while also recovering a stolen vehicle valued at N145 million.
Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Daniel Edebor, said the arrests were part of intensified efforts to combat crime in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police.
He disclosed that operatives of Operation Puff Adder recovered a stolen Toyota Hiace bus after arresting the principal suspect, who confessed and led police to accomplices.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle was resold through multiple buyers before being tracked to Lagos.
“All suspects have confessed and will be charged to court,” Edebor said, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices.
The police also arrested suspects linked to attempted robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the suspects were en route… with the intent to rob unsuspecting passengers,” he stated.
In a major breakthrough, the command also apprehended a suspected serial killer earlier declared wanted in Ebonyi State.
Edebor reassured residents of the command’s commitment to security.
“There is no hiding place for criminals in Bayelsa; they should either repent or relocate,” he warned.
